Completing a Backup

Backing up your files may result in a full backup, partial backup, or an unsuccessful backup based on a number of conditions. Following is a description of the various backup conditions that may result after initiating a backup of your files.

In addition to the message that appears at the top of the backup screen, the color or colors in the content gauges provide a visual cue to indicate which files have or have not been successfully backed up.

When your Backup Drive is Full

The appearance of a caution message indicating that your backup drive is full means that there is not enough free space on the drive to complete the backup operation. The best long-term solution is to add a new drive with enough capacity to support the needed space. You can connect directly to the WD online store from the Home tab to assist you in selecting a new drive.

To connect to the WD online store:

  1. Click the WD SmartWare Home tab.
  2. In the WD Online area of the screen, click the WD Store link to display the
Western Digital Online Store web site.
  3. Click External Hard Drives and select the drive that best meets your requirements.
