During Backup
Several feedback mechanisms provide you with the status of your backup, including a progress bar, the number of files, and the size of the files being backed up. The content gauges, columns that represent your computer and your WD backup drive, display different colors depending on your current backup status.
Content Gauges
- The content gauge displayed at the left side of the window (your computer) changes color when backup begins. The light blue categories become dark blue as the backup progresses.
- The content gauge displayed at the right side of the window (your WD drive) initially displays a gray background, and changes to blue as the backup operation completes.
- Yellow identifies any files that are either pending or where backup was not completed.
On backup completion, more information is displayed about any files that experience problems during backup.
Using the Run Backup and Pause Backup Options
The Run Backup and Pause Backup options let you run or pause a backup operation.
- Run Backup. SmartWare begins backing up all the files on your system, or only the file categories you have selected.
- Pause Backup. When clicked, a dialog box appears with options to either stop or continue the backup. Click Continue Backup to continue from the point at which backup stopped. Click Stop Backup to stop the backup. The next time you start a backup, file backup begins from the point at which you stopped, as well as including any new or modified files on your system.
Using your Computer While Backing Up Files
The WD SmartWare software runs in the background so you can continue working on other tasks on your computer while backup occurs. You can even continue setting up your drive while the backup is running.
