Completing a Backup
Backing up your files may result in a full backup, partial backup, or an unsuccessful backup based on a number of conditions. Following is a description of the various backup conditions that may result after initiating a backup of your files.
In addition to the message that appears at the top of the backup screen, the color or colors in the content gauges provide a visual cue to indicate which files have or have not been successfully backed up.
- Backup accomplished successfully. The backup was a complete success. The categories for both your WD drive and your computer are an identical shade of blue, indicating that all the files on your hard drive were successfully copied to your WD drive.
- Partial backup accomplished. Some of your files have not been backed up; a warning triangle appears next to your computer's content gauge with the number of files not backed up. Click View files to display a list of the files that were not backed up.
- Backup canceled. If you clicked Pause Backup, and then click Stop Backup in the subsequent dialog box that appears, backup is canceled.
When your Backup Drive is Full
The appearance of a caution message indicating that your backup drive is full means that there is not enough free space on the drive to complete the backup operation. The best long-term solution is to add a new drive with enough capacity to support the needed space. You can connect directly to the WD online store from the Home tab to assist you in selecting a new drive.
To connect to the WD online store:
- Click the WD SmartWare Home tab.
- Click the WD Store link in the WD Online box to display the
Western Digital Online Store web site.
- Click External Hard Drives and select the best drive to meet your future requirements.
