Specifying the Number of File Versions to Keep

You can specify the number of versions of a file you want backed up using the File History option; the default number of versions is five (5). After you reach the maximum number of backups specified, the WD SmartWare™ software deletes the oldest version before backing up a new version. When working on large or lengthy projects, it can be helpful to set a larger number so you have a longer historical view of you projects. However, specifying a larger number of backup versions consumes more disk space.

To specify the number of backup versions for each file:

  1. Click File History; then enter a number from 1 to 25.
  2. Click Apply. If you accept the default value of 5, the Apply button remains dimmed.
