About the WD SmartWare Virtual CD Manager

The WD SmartWare Virtual CD (VCD) Manager application lets you disable (hide) or enable (display) the WD SmartWare VCD on your WD drive. If you prefer to disable (hide) the VCD, options associated with the VCD are no longer available for use (see Disabled Options). However, you can re-enable the VCD on your WD drive at any time disabling — the VCD prevents it from appearing on your computer, but does not delete it from your WD drive.

Note: Before starting the Virtual CD Manager, please be sure your drive has the latest version of the firmware and the WD SmartWare software. The latest versions of the firmware and software are available from http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/updates/?family=wdsmartware.

To run the WD SmartWare Virtual CD Manager:

  1. Double-click WD SmartWare Virtual CD Manager for Windows.exe (a version number is included in the file name) to start the application.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware on your drive. If multiple drives are connected to your computer, select the drive you shows VCD you want to disable or enable.
  3. Turn your drive off and then on for the changes to take effect.
