Working with WD SmartWare Backup Software
The WD SmartWare™ Welcome screen provides four options:
- Install WD SmartWare. Installs WD SmartWare and then lets you run your first backup operation using the default drive settings. You can also select specific content categories for backup.
- Install Drive Settings. Installs only the drive management software, which lets you set security options for your drive, for example, locking (encrypted drives only), naming, and registering your drive.
- Do Not Install. Exits the Welcome screen without installing WD SmartWare. This option is not available for Macintosh.
- Retrieve a Backup. Either installs WD SmartWare or detects it on the computer into which you plug your drive; then displays the WD SmartWare Home screen, from which you can retrieve the desired backup.
To install WD SmartWare:
Click Install WD SmartWare.
To install only the drive management software:
Click Install Drive Settings. The Drive Settings screen appears, from which you can select disk management options as well as register your drive.
To exit without installing WD SmartWare:
Click Do Not Install to exit the Welcome screen.
To retrieve a backup from a drive:
Click Retrieve a Backup at the bottom of the Welcome screen.
- If WD SmartWare is not installed on the computer into which you plug the drive, it is installed and then the Home screen appears, from which you can retrieve the desired backup.
- If WD SmartWare is already installed on the computer from which you want to retrieve a backup, plugging in the drive detects the application, and then displays the Home screen, from which you can retrieve the desired backup.
